The Leeds Country Way Relay is an annual race which has been organised by Kippax Harriers, since the race was first established in 1990. It is held around the end of August or the beginning of September and comprises of 6 pairs of runners in each team, with each pair running a leg (section) around the actual LCW route attempting to get the baton round to the runners on the next leg before the cut-off.
This race is an important part of the Crossgates Harriers calendar, being one of the few opportunities for us to race and support as a team of runners.
In recent years we have managed to field 3 full teams of 12 runners and have managed to get the baton round (an achievement in itself!)
The legs of the race vary between 9 and 12 miles and are run over challenging unmarshalled terrain – as such the commitment is to recce the route thoroughly before the event although there are always club members happy to help with these runs.
There is a big social media presence on the day so we can support each other and keep up to date with how our teams are doing and we always meet up to cheer the runners in from the last leg and finish with a buffet and drink in the Podger in Garforth!
Truly a club day
